The project involves manufacturing and delivery of numerous 50MVA 230 kV single phase transformers to electrical and mechanical contractor company Gardner Zemke. The cooperation will span around 2.5 years until March 2013. Delivery of the first set of transformer units is planned for March 2012. With a capacity of 6,809 MW, Grand Coulee Dam is the biggest electrical plant in the USA. It is located on the Columbia river, about 90 miles west of Spokane, Washington, USA. The project involves the replacement of numerous single-phase, two-winding, 13,6 kV 50MVA 230 kV transformers and appurtenances in the left and right power plants. The existing transformers are at least 60 years old and have already experienced several failures. Replacing the infrastructure of the Grand Coulee Dam is important for a continuous supply of hydro-electrical power in the Pacific northwest area. Matthias Oppermann, CEO of Von Roll Holding AG: "We are glad to be chosen as the supplier of power transformers for such a prestigious hydropower project. It is an important milestone in Von Roll´s goal to contribute to the supply of green energy." The awarding of the contract is based on a trustful business relationship of Von Roll and Gardner Zemke going back to 2002. The transformers are sold to contractor Gardener Zemke for the end client Bureau of Reclamation which is a US-based Federal Electrical Utility.
