Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) signed power-purchase agreements with renewable energy providers SunPower Corp. (SPWR) and Airtricity.
SunPower, a Sunnyvale, Calif., solar-electric power products company, will install a 1-megawatt solar electric power system at H-P's printer manufacturing facility in San Diego.
H-P will buy back solar power from SunPower at a reduced, locked-in rate, saving the company an estimated $750,000 in energy costs during the next 15 years.
Airtricity, a wind farm operator, will supply 80 gigawatt-hours of renewable wind energy to H-P facilities in Ireland for fiscal 2008. H-P said the agreement will save it about $40,000 over the year-long contract.
