Kontron AG, one of the world's leading providers of embedded computer systems, has won a design order with a total volume of around $24 million in the important new B2B application field of home entertainment. Kontron has developed a motherboard for video and audio system based on the space-saving MicroATX-Format for one of the leading technology suppliers in North America. The intention is that the order will amount to an annual volume of $8 million, and will span several years. The first deliveries will start in the fourth quarter of 2008, and will continue until the full production target is reached from 2009. 'This is the first design win in what is for us a new and exciting field of application, to which we ascribe great significance,' commented Ulrich Gehrmann, CEO of Kontron AG. In this new infotainment segment Kontron expects from this new order a strong EBIT margin. The compact Kontron 986LCD-M/FLEX motherboard supports the latest Intel(TM) Core(TM) 2 Duo, Intel(TM) Core(TM) Duo, Intel(TM) Core(TM) Solo, and Celeron(TM) processors. It is capable of a particularly high level of data throughput, and consumes very little energy. This creates ideal preconditions for broad use in various areas of application and markets. The new order means that Kontron is entering further up-and-coming market segments. Kontron computer products are distinguished through their particularly high level of performance accompanied by low space and energy requirements. They also offer high capacity, a high level of accessibility, and broad data throughput.
