Sales and earnings are ahead of the Group's internal forecasts. Consolidated sales, at just over EUR 50 million, were well ahead of the figure for the prior year (EUR 3.5 million). The operating result (EBIT) reached EUR 2.3 million (Q1 2008: EUR -2.8 million). The ongoing positive trend in the SYSTAIC Solar Power Plant division is one main reason for the favourable development of the Group's business. Revenue here amounted to EUR 48.4 million and was thus many times higher than the revenue generated in the same quarter of the previous year (Q1 2008: EUR 0.2 million). Revenue in the SYSTAIC Energy Roof Systems division is seasonal and is often low in the first quarter. It was EUR 0.3 million and was below the prior-year figure (Q1 2008: EUR 1.2 million). The automotive industry is increasingly striving for regenerative drive systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. Currently SYSTAIC is the only industrial provider of photovoltaic solutions for cars. However, the SYSTAIC Automotive division was unable to escape the situation in the automotive industry and the associated decline in demand for new vehicles. Sales in this segment in the first quarter of 2009 were EUR 1.4 million (Q1 2008: EUR 2.2 million). In recent weeks rising delivery demand figures have been recorded again. These are already approaching prior-year levels for May and June 2009. The Company is anticipating significant growth in the medium-term, due to the large number of development assignments it has received. 'Unlike almost all other solar companies, SYSTAIC does not market any components, but rather offers its customers innovative application solutions', explains Michael Pack, CEO of systaic AG. 'In the current market environment, we are therefore benefiting from manufacturers' significant overcapacities and the dramatic fall in prices for solar cells and modules.' At present, sales and earnings forecasts for 2009 as a whole can be confirmed: the Executive Board remains convinced that it can boost sales by at least 30% to over EUR 260 million, with an operating margin of around 7%.
