18.04.2008
Berlin, Germany - 18 April 2008. Heliocentris Fuel Cells AG, a leading system integrator for fuel cells, and Ballard Power Systems, a leader in the development, manufacture and sale of hydrogen fuel cells, signed a sales agreement today regarding Ballard's Mark1020 ACS(TM) fuel cell product. This extends the successful cooperation between the companies, which has been ongoing since 2004 and strengthens Heliocentris' positioning as system integrator for fuel cells. Within the framework of the agreement, which is valid until the end of 2010, Heliocentris commits to the purchase of at least 350 Mark1020 ACS(TM) fuel cell units. These will be integrated into fuel cell systems, which means increased added value by Heliocentris and expansion of the technological positioning of Heliocentris as system integrator for fuel cells. On the basis of the Mark1020 ACS(TM), Heliocentris will offer two system platforms with different power levels. At the Hanover Fair (21 to 25 April 2008), Heliocentris will showcase its first system prototypes. These systems are scheduled to be available for delivery as of the fourth quarter of 2008. In addition to universities and research institutes, the target group also includes industrial companies, especially for uses such as autonomous power supplies and battery chargers. The cooperation between Heliocentris and Ballard has been based up to now primarily on the Nexa® power module, sold by Heliocentris in the hundreds of units, integrated into numerous applications. Dr. Henrik Colell, CEO of Heliocentris Fuel Cells AG commented, "We are pleased about the expansion of the successful cooperation with Ballard Power Systems and consider the integration of Mark1020 ACS(TM) fuel cell products an optimal expansion of our system platform strategy. As a result, we can meet customer requirements for system integration even better. " William Foulds, Vice President of Sales at Ballard added, "Heliocentris' competence and experience in system integration, combined with its unique worldwide positioning in the post-secondary education market, will support us in terms of our presence in new, interesting fuel cell markets and in achieving a high degree of awareness amongst top-class researchers and engineers."
