Sun Microsystems Inc. (JAVA) acquired Innotek Ltd. (M14.SG) a German software-virtualization developer.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Separately, Sun said it agreed to a joint-venture partnership with Frontline Technologies Corp., forming Sun Vietnam, to improve the company's presence in emerging markets.

The Santa Clara, Calif., open-source software developer said it acquired Innotek to enable developers to more efficiently build, test and run applications on multiple platforms using Innotek's VirtualBox software.

Sun said the acquisition will not materially affect per-share earnings and will close in the fiscal third quarter.

Sun Vietnam is the first venture formed under the Sun Equity Partner Program.

The company said its sales offices in Vietnam will open in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 2008.

Shares in Sun rose 0.8%, or 14 cents, to $16.95 in recent trading.
