Three-Year Partnership to Support the United Kingdom's Move to a Low Carbon
Energy Future
LONDON, Dec. 1, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EnerNOC, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENOC), an
international leader in data-driven energy management solutions, today
announced its participation in UK Power Networks' Low Carbon London project,
which was awarded [Pounds]24.26 million this week by Ofgem. The project, which is
described as a 'smart city' initiative for London, will run from January 2011
through June 2014. EnerNOC UK Limited will participate in the project by
providing its DemandSMART? application and services to commercial,
institutional, and industrial energy users in London.
'Demand response is a proven and scalable solution to create more efficient and
reliable electricity networks,' said David Brewster, President of EnerNOC. 'We
are excited to assist UK Power Networks and the City of London to adopt best
practices in active network management and achieve ambitious sustainability
goals that will help lead the UK toward a low carbon energy future.'
In addition to incorporating demand-side management resources into the
electricity grid, the Low Carbon London project is designed to facilitate the
adoption of other low carbon and energy saving initiatives including electric
vehicles, heat pumps, micro-generation, and smart meter installations. As one
of several partners selected by UK Power Networks, EnerNOC will draw upon its
deep experience and growing network of commercial, institutional, and
industrial sites to provide demand response capacity for the duration of the
project. UK Power Networks provides power to a quarter of the UK's population
through its electricity distribution networks in London, as well as the South
East and East of England.
'The success of this bid is tremendous news for sustainability in London,' said
Basil Scarsella, Chief Executive of UK Power Networks. 'It means we can start
developing an electricity network that not only supports London's existing and
planned low carbon strategies, but can also accommodate the many different
demands on the network we will face in 2020. We are delighted Ofgem recognized
the strength of our bid and the tremendous potential London offers as the test
bed for a low carbon project.'
